Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), also known as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), are passed from one person to another through sexual activity, including vaginal, oral and anal sex. They are very common and millions of new infections occur every year.
There are several different types of STIs. They don’t always cause symptoms, so it is possible to have an STI and not know it. That’s why it’s important to get tested if you are having sex. Some STIs can cause serious complications, but all of them can be treated with medicine and some can be cured.
If you are having sex, it’s important to get tested.
