Health & Safety

Environmental Health Protection promotes consumer health through food service protection, consumer health protection, litter abatement, and vector control. Food Service Protection focuses on inspection and licensing of all retail food service establishments in the county. Consumer Health Protection ensures compliance with local and state laws regarding motels, child care facilities, public and private schools, health clubs, foster homes, tanning salons, tattoo parlors, and public swimming pools. In addition, the staff investigates complaints dealing with health and sanitation problems in the county. Litter Abatement includes illegal dumping, garbage storage, abandoned vehicles, abandoned housing causing rodent nesting grounds and general unsanitary conditions. Vector Control assists when possible in the prevention of disease-carrying pests, including rodents, insects, bats and other vectors.

The Angelina County & Cities Health District mirrors the Texas Strategic Vision for health and medical preparedness in Texas in that “ACCHD will be prepared and ready to respond to a health and medical event due to either a man-made or natural disaster.” ACCHD is one of the first responders in a declared emergency event within our jurisdiction: Angelina, Polk and San Augustine Counties. Public Health Preparedness includes readiness for mass care events/mass dispensing of pharmaceuticals, epidemiologic surveillance of reportable communicable diseases, partner/stakeholder engagement in drills, trainings and exercises, community education regarding public health threats.

Concerns regarding food service establishments and/or any of the above can be made in person or over the telephone. Contact us at (936) 632-9109 to speak to an Environmental Health specialist.
